Boats And Outboards
Boats and outboards can be found both separately and
together for sale in many places, such as actual stores,
online, or from individuals selling an old engine or vessel.
Sometimes the boats do not have outboards, but instead built in
engines that are found in larger vessels. Outboards are small
engines that are attached to boats that you can see on the
outside of the boat. That is where the name of the engine type
comes from. Outboard motors can be controlled from a wheel and
dash like what is in a car, or can be controlled by hand at the
motor itself using hand controls.
Most boats and outboards are portable, however the the size
of the motor does affect it's portability. Small motors of 15
horsepower or less are easily transportable and simply clamp
onto a boat such as a rowboat for easy use. As motors become
larger they become heavier along with the increase in
horsepower. There are also electric and diesel motors on the
market that allow for a greater range in motors used. Gasoline
motors can be found as two, three and four cylinder models.
Outboards can even be found as V6's or V8's which can have up
to 350 horsepower.
As most boats and outboards have propellers it is
interesting to consider another option called a pump-jet. It is
actually available as an option on many outboard motors and
uses a jet of water like and octopus or a squid to move the
boat. While not as powerful and less efficient than a normal
propeller motor the advantage of that kind of motor is that it
can be used in shallow water.
The first outboard motors were sold in 1907 and were most
likely attached to small boats via clamps. Boats today can be
designed specifically for use with outboards or they can be
designed for more traditional recreational activities such as
rowing and fishing. Boats however do not always use outboard
motors. In fact most vessels on the water that are of a larger
size have built in motors, still many boats and outboards are
on our waterways.
Many kinds of boats enjoy time on the water today.
Everything from sailing vessels to oil tankers can be found on
the worlds waters today. Many of the larger vessels on the
water are owned by companies that have to do with shipping, and
in fact shipping lanes on the oceans are becoming more and more
crowded due to increased worldwide demand for goods.
The size, shape and power of boats and outboards only depend
on what the customer wants and the depth of their purse. Some
boats however have specific shapes and engines due to the
specific nature of the work to be done with the boat.
The average price for boats and outboards when paired
together can vary depending on the company making the both
items and the size and power of the boat and engine. Some boats
may cost as little as a thousand dollars with or without an
engine from a private seller, all the way up to multi-million
dollar pleasure boats.
